Mission Statement

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, D.C. creates and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Our three core programs include two Ronald McDonald Houses® (one in D.C. and one in Northern Virginia), providing a home-away-from-home for the families of seriously ill children being treated at area hospitals, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® in association with Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, providing free healthcare to thousands of under-served children annually in D.C. , and the Ronald McDonald Family Room® at Children's National Medical Center, a quiet retreat for parents and other caregivers within the hospital. Our programs help provide access to quality health care and give children and their families the support they need to heal faster and cope better. In addition to our three core programs, RMHC has a Grants Program and a Scholarship Program. The mission of these outreach programs is also to help children and young adults reach their full potential. Financial support for these programs is limited to funds raised through special promotions coordinated by RMHC Global and McDonald's Family Restaurants.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

RMHC is proud to have been selected to be featured again in the 2011-2012 Catalogue for Philanthropy, after first being featured in 2007. Our goal for the coming year is to continue to serve families in crisis through our cornerstone Ronald McDonald Houses, our Ronald McDonald Family Room at Children's National Medical Center and our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program.

Prior to joining RMHC, Karen was Senior Marketing Manager for the American Chemical Society. Karen also has years of experience working with families dealing with serious illness through her previous positions at the United Network for Organ Sharing and Virginia Blood Services.

Leadership Statement:

I feel privileged to be a part of Ronald McDonald House Charities and able to see the value of what we do every day: improving the lives of children with programs that strengthen families during their most difficult or challenging times. We believe that when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s, which can change a community, and ultimately the world.
