What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Animal Seizure and Legal Process
We provide legal support and assistance for law enforcement in seizure operations, including provision of legal services during the judicial process. Our president is an attorney and equine law expert.
Rehabilitation
Most horses that come into our care have suffered severe neglect or abuse. We rehabilitate their minds, bodies and spirits with proper nutrition, overall care, and medical treatment, and we allow them time to heal mentally and physically. We are staffed with experts on equine nutrition and natural horsemanship methods.
Training
We firmly believe that an untrained horse has an uncertain future. Pegasus is different from many horse rescues because of the expense and effort we put into training. Our trainers are nationally recognized for their natural horsemanship methods and results. We take the time it takes to properly prepare each horse for a forever home. We also train horses to be adopted by therapeutic riding schools to provide services to disabled and at-risk children and adults. In addition, we instruct potential adopters, improving their horsemanship skills, to ensure that an adoption of a Pegasus horse is a lifetime match.
Adoption
We dedicate our skills to ensuring well-matched, lifelong adoptions. Each adopter signs a contract agreeing that the horse will never be sold, traded, or given away. If for any reason then adopter cannot keep the horse, he must return the horse to us so that we can find the horse another home, thereby ensuring its safety for the remainder of its life.
Horsemanship Clinics
We offer horsemanship clinics for equine owners. Twice each year, we host internationally acclaimed horseman and author, Mark Rashid, to teach people and their horses. We also host quarterly mini-clinics on various topics such as trail riding, trailer loading, ground skills, and various other topics of horsemanship.
Educational Programs for Horse Owners
Throughout the year, we offer assistance to our adopters (or anyone who needs our guidance) regarding proper horse care, nutrition, tack, equipment, etc. We offer consultations regarding specific horses, as well as general horse care instruction.
Educational Programs for Law Enforcement
Our president, an attorney and equine law expert, offers free programs for law enforcement agencies to educate them on the animal cruelty statutes and to ensure the use of proper seizure protocols.
Safety Net
We provide funding to responsible, deserving horse owners who are in short-term need. Loss of a job or a death in the family can cause immediate hardships. We help loving owners keep their horses through rough times. We will assist with veterinary costs, including castration, farrier expenses, hay, feed, etc.
