Policy Advocacy
APANO’s Policy Advocacy work develops out of our community organizing and leadership development programs, with the goal of winning concrete changes in local ordinances, state and federal legislation, ballot measures, and other public policy.

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a base of over 200 active volunteers, a larger network of 5,000 supporters, and a seasoned staff of 12. We raise significant resources from our members, have strong relationships with local foundations, government, and a growing presence at the national level.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We've won significant victories including:
HB 2134 establishing the nations first disaggregated standards for race, ethnicity, language and disability status.
HB 3499 reforming Oregon's ELL programs including $12.5 million for support and intervention with low performing districts.
