Alan Rappaport

Chair

Alan Rappaport took over as chair of GuideStar's board in 2006. He is chair of The Private Bank and president of Family Wealth Advisors at Bank of America. In addition, Mr. Rappaport serves as the market president for New York State and New York City, overseeing the Bank's activities as well as local philanthropic and sponsorship efforts. Mr. Rappaport serves on the boards of the American Museum of Natural History, the Partnership for New York City, the New York City Investment Fund, and MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership. He has served numerous other organizations, including Take the Field, Bronxville Community Fund, Lawrence Hospital, and the Big Apple Circus.

Virginia A. Hodgkinson

Dr. Virginia Hodgkinson is an adjunct professor of public policy at the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute. In her distinguished career, she has served on various executive and advisory boards and was a founder of both the Center for the Study of Voluntary Organizations and Service and the Center for Democracy and the Third Sector at Georgetown University. She was a founding vice president at Independent Sector and is a former executive director of the National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS).

David Brown joined the GuideStar board in 2005. He specializes in working with nonprofit executives and boards to enhance organizational effectiveness through strategic thinking, improved governance, capacity building, and revenue enhancement. In addition to his extensive experience in marketing, development, communications, and governance, he has served as a board member for a broad range of nonprofits, including Emma Willard School, the Horizons Initiative, and the Pan Mass Challenge.

Tom Tinsley is a managing director at General Atlantic LLC, a global private equity firm, where he has worked since 1999. In his capacity as a managing director, Mr. Tinsley is a director at Xchanging and Critical Path. From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Tinsley served in executive positions with Baan Company, NV. Prior to joining Baan, Mr. Tinsley was a director at McKinsey & Company. Mr. Tinsley currently serves on the advisory board of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame and on the boards of BMC Software and Philanthropic Research, Inc.

Diana Aviv

Diana Aviv

Diana Aviv is the president and CEO of Independent Sector, the national leadership forum for America's nonprofit organizations, foundations, and corporations. She also serves as executive director of the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector. Ms. Aviv is a frequent speaker on the accountability and transparency of nonprofit organizations, the financial state of the nonprofit sector, the role of civil society in democracy, and civic engagement. She is past chair of the National Immigration Forum and serves on the boards of the Stanford Social Innovation Review, the Partnership for Public Service, and GuideStar.

Greg Feldman

Greg Feldman is the cofounder and managing partner of Wellspring Capital Management LLC, a private equity firm in New York City. He was an attorney with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison from 1983 to 1998. Mr. Feldman is involved with a number of arts and education organizations in New York, including the Whitney Museum (co-head of its Director's Council), Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Kitchen (board), and Trinity School.

William F. Meehan III

William F. Meehan III

William F. Meehan III is a senior director of McKinsey & Company, Inc. In addition to his experience working with chief executives and senior leaders in technology, private equity, retailing, financial services, and media, he is also a regular writer and speaker on the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. He serves on the boards of the United Way of the Bay Area, San Francisco Symphony, and GuideStar. Mr. Meehan is also a member of the California Business Roundtable and a former member of the California Chamber of Commerce, the Committee on JOBS, and the boards of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Fordham Prep.

Clara Miller, president and CEO of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, is a member of the Community Development Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Fannie Mae Foundation's Advisory Committee on Affordable Housing Leadership. She also serves on the advisory board of the Stanford Social Innovation Review and the boards of The Robert Sterling Clark Foundation and Community Wealth Ventures, a subsidiary of Share Our Strength. She has written and spoken extensively on nonprofit capitalization.

Robert G. Ottenhoff was elected president and chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of GuideStar in September 2002. Mr. Ottenhoff joined GuideStar in 2002, after several years of managing high-tech companies and an international consulting practice. He serves on the boards of VisionTV, Grameen Foundation USA, AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy, and ePhilanthropy Foundation. In addition, Mr. Ottenhoff serves on Independent Sector's Ethics and Accountability Task Force. He recently served on the Transparency and Financial Accountability Work Group of the national Panel on the Nonprofit Sector.

Stephen Salyer is president and chief executive officer of the Salzburg Seminar, whose mission is to challenge current and future leaders to develop creative ideas for solving global problems. Formerly, Mr. Salyer was chief executive officer and president of Public Radio International. His recent board service includes Public Radio International, Public Interactive LLC, Davidson College, and MacPhail Center for Music.

Patrick Spain is the founder of HighBeam Research, Inc. Mr. Spain is a cofounder and was former chairman and CEO of Hoover's, a leading on-line provider of company information. Prior to Hoover's, Mr. Spain worked in the telecommunications industry, first as a lawyer and then as a business executive; as a real estate developer; and as an economic consultant. Mr. Spain also sits on the boards of Stockgroup Information Systems Inc. (OTC: SWEB) and SmartAnalyst.
