Systems Engineer
Primary Purpose
Support production networking environment. Install and maintain GuideStar's production computer systems and software; provide technical guidance to GuideStar staff; interact with vendors for maintenance and support as needed
Reports To
Manager, Information Systems
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows operating systems
- Install and maintain all server software
- Maintain network security I.A.W. company policy and provide intrusion recovery
- Assist in designing and implementing integrated networking environment utilizing routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Install, upgrade, and configure servers, routers, switches, and other computer equipment
- Assist in planning and deployment of Windows 2003 Active Directory
- Design and implement Windows Group Policies
- Expeditiously resolve production network and server problems issues when services are not available
- Train department personnel and others on system operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve service issues with minimal impact to business groups
- Ensure that all systems data are backed up and archived I.A.W. company policy
- Supervise and mentor the Systems Administrator
- Assist the IS Manager as required
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by management
Working Relationships
Maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work activities; interact with in-house staff and vendors
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification or equivalent training
- Minimum of 5 years of IT experience with at least 3 years of experience as a Windows System Administrator/Engineer
- Skilled with Microsoft Exchange, IIS, SQL, ISA, Commerce server, clustering, and fiber channel storage area networks
- Skilled in network operations including switches, routers, and local and wide area networking protocols, including VPN
- Skilled in the installation and maintenance of Windows operating systems
- Experience with VMWare ESX 2.5 or 3.x
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain files, records, and reports

Data Engineer
Primary Purpose
Support the data engineering and architecture of the import, storage, and delivery processes, including how we engineer custom data extracts.
Reports To
Senior Director, Data Operations
Responsibilities
- Senior person, experienced with the GuideStar schema, evaluates, develops, selects, and designs data import, storage, cleansing, and delivery processes
- Analyze all practical solutions and recommend action for existing business process problems
- Train new employees in GS schema so that they are able to fill in demand for custom data pulls. Provide top-tier support to resolve custom data set delivery problems.
- Provide guidance in resolving data delivery and process breakdowns, research implementation issues, and ensure follow-through in final resolution
- Break down complicated processes and responsibilities that are relevant, appropriate, and show the impact of before/after revisions
- Design business processes for improved quality and efficiencies with less manual intervention, variation, and fewer handoffs
- Assist in the design and indexing of data structures for new processes and improving current storage and delivery efficiencies
- Promote teamwork, energizing self and others to obtain buy-in for revised procedures. Love working with others.
- Coordinate with QA and planning to ensure that optimum planning and testing is accomplished for process and data migrations
- May assist in preparation of proposals and other materials necessary for sales calls and evaluate our ability to support products proposed for sale
- Perform other duties as required

Qualifications
- Success in this role requires experience with GuideStar schemas, attention to detail, SQL technical expertise, customer focus, GS business process knowledge, savvy communication skills, and initiative
- 4+ years experience in T-Sql, MS Sql 2000 and 2005, creating custom data extracts or implementation migration mappings. Visual Studio experience.
- BS in Computer Science or an additional 4 years of applications development or database experience
- Good business sense and professional discernment, ability to evaluate priorities effectively and manage time appropriately
- Creative problem resolution skills, ability to synthesize the big picture into the few most relevant bullet points, and ability to communicate easily

Senior Director, Data Operations
Primary Purpose
The Senior Director, Data Operations, ensures the quality and integrity of all data resources and processes used in support of GuideStar's products and services. This position oversees and directs aspects of management, leadership, and strategic direction related to data management activities. A key component is stewardship that enables GuideStar to manage data as an asset. This position is also responsible for defining, directing, and monitoring the overall planning and strategic development of major project initiatives related to data, data acquisition, and our enterprise search platform. This position will establish and operate the governance and processes required to establish and maintain an enduring and flexible data management environment.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for operating a high-availability data infrastructure that is capable of supporting high-response Web sites and internal systems and for providing the management and technical leadership necessary to manage successfully data support projects through completion
- Link the Data Operations strategy to the goals and objectives of the business
- Develop and maintain processes necessary to ensure high-availability data operations, including monitoring and capacity management plans, staffing plans, incident management, and escalations
- Communicate project plans, issue resolution, and other important matters with all areas of IT and customer departments; such communication includes the development of proposals and request for proposals concerning all projects
- Direct and develop coherent enterprise-wide data and search models that provide the blueprint for all data acquisition and development initiatives and foster efficiency through the utilization of industry standard processes, tools, guiding principles, and best practices
- Serve as the conduit for incorporating enterprise business intelligence into the enterprise data collections
- Research and stay abreast of industry best practices related to governance and stewardship, data and requirements management, and search technology to ensure continuous improvement to quality, reduction in cost, and/or reduction in development time
- Direct, develop, and mentor a team. Manage the department and its employees, including interviewing and hiring employees following required EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines, ensuring employees receive proper training, overseeing employees' skill and career development, and administering policy, discipline, employee relations, and cost control. Conduct performance evaluation.
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and establish controls to stay within approved budget
- Participate in GuideStar work teams as needed
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by management
Working Relationships
Work with GuideStar employees to identify business technology needs and revise solutions to ensure internal and external users' needs, are met; work with key vendors and partners to implement appropriate levels of service and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive management experience, including information technology and analytics, with 5 years in senior leadership roles
- Demonstrated experience in dimensional modeling and data management
- Experience with enterprise search platforms and technology
- Successful track record in managing large projects from initiation to implementation around data warehousing, data management, business intelligence, and search
- Skill with Microsoft SQL Server, XML, and other data storage and manipulation tools
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills
- Strong leadership skills with the related ability to generate ideas, support, and commitment from those affected by the position and work cooperatively with them to accomplish company, division, and project objectives
- Ability to promote teamwork and develop and maintain constructive relationships
