Did You Know ...
GuideStar Started Out as a Book?

"Welcome to the first edition of the GuideStar Directory of American Charities Index. ... Our mission is to stimulate donor-initiated philanthropy by foundations, donor advisors, corporations and individuals."

So read page one of the GuideStar Directory, published seven years ago this July. A 400-page soft-cover book, the Directory was accompanied by a CD-ROM with in-depth reports on more than 35,000 charities. The 1996 Index was the first and the last hard-copy version of GuideStar. Shortly after publication, GuideStar went on-line and the directory became a database.
