Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

Each year more than 3000 Vermonters who visit emergency rooms are diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. Of those, over 400 Vermonters are hospitalized. Major causes of brain injury include motor vehicle collisions, falls, assaults and shaken baby syndrome, as well as acquired brain injuries due to strokes, near-drowning, heart failure, and aneurysms. Brain injuries have lasting, life-changing consequences and often require ongoing rehabilitation.

The Brain Injury Association of Vermont is dedicated to serving the needs of individuals with brain injury, their family members, caregivers and professionals. We are a 501-C-3 non-profit corporation and a charter affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America. Our mission is to create a better future for individuals with brain injury through prevention, education, advocacy and support.

We accomplish this by working closely with State and Local agencies, and other aging and disability partners in offering assistance to Vermonters and their families affected by brain injury. Further, we help them locate the services they need to live meaningful lives, in their own community; among family and friends.
