Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
ABCDC
was established by neighborhood residents in 1980 who sought a development
organization accountable to the local community. Today ABCDC is celebrating 30
years of community impact by providing high-quality housing & programs for
personal and community stability.
*We
have developed 523 affordable homes to provide stability for 1000 residents. We
maintain the high quality of these units by refinancing and renovating
buildings to preserve affordability, while also planning for the development of
new affordable homes.
*In
our Homeownership program, 3400 people have taken homebuying classes in 7
languages over 13 years with 100 grads buying homes each year using stable
mortgages.
*Since
1999, low-income, low-wealth participants have saved over $300,000 for
education, homeownership and entrepreneurship goals and leveraged over $2.5
million in assets in our Individual Development Account program. We are the community’s financial education
leader, offering classes through local partnerships.
*
For the past 10 years we’ve been Allston Brighton’s only housing counseling
resource for low-income tenants: each
year we counsel over 200 households on apartment conditions, preventing
evictions, housing search, or resident organizing.
*We
unify neighbors to protect open spaces and promote environmentally
sustainability by creating & protecting open spaces, through
sustainable redesign, and by increasing the energy efficiency of the housing
stock. We have transformed 8 local schoolyards,
protected 2 urban wilds, and created stewardship groups for many local parks.
*We
are a resource to residents and institutions on partnerships on homeownership,
open space and other issues that increase community stability. Our Latinos en
Acción committee has engaged over 500 Latinos in civic life.
