Evidence of Impact

Fractured Atlas is cited for helping artists sustain themselves and their work through critical services and professional development. Experts also laud advocacy efforts to support artists through legislation.

Impact
Fractured Atlas Productions, though still in some respects a start-up organization has brought a high level of entrepreneurship to serving artists (primarily) and arts organizations. It provides health and liability insurance to its more than 12 thousand artist members plus the artist members of 93 participating service organizations. In my view its youthful and "no-whining" style and rhetoric in bringing its services to a national constituency has the capacity to change the quality of the dialog within the artist community about how artists operate, what they need, and what they offer. Foundation Professional
They provide artists with the services and resources they need. They also effectively deploy information and education. Researcher and Faculty
They provide thoughtful resources to individual artists across disciplines, delivered in a way that is accessible, responsive, and replicable. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Fractured Atlas Productions' programs help artists make art and sustain themselves doing so. They help artists access healthcare and insurance, act as a fiscal sponsor, and provide professional development, advocacy, and more. Nonprofit Senior Staff
This organization has helped thousands of individual artists in key areas, including health care reform. Nonprofit Senior Staff
This organization is national and has become an important nexus for artist services and resources. They have taken great advantage of new technologies to provide cost effective access to these resources and have become a trusted source and go-to organizations for artists. They are noted for their proactive issue-spotting capabilities and for their advocacy on behalf of policies and legislation that benefits artists and the arts field. Nonprofit Senior Staff
They provide high quality low cost access to insurance, professional development, and fiscal support to performing artists. Other

Organizational Strengths

Experts note the use of technology and programming to train and empower artists. The group's leadership and operations are also called out as strengths by multiple artists.

Leadership & Operations
They have strong leadership and, as noted above, a refreshing lack of entitlement attitude as it purveys its services. They have a significantly web-based approach to services and operations. Foundation Professional
Adam Hutler is a wonderful leader for the organization and brings for-profit experience and skills as key assets contributing to Fractal Atlas' success. He's a founder of the organization, which is always reaching out to prospective partners. The organization is nimble, deliberate in its actions and well-planned. They are great at leveraging their assets in the artist community and strategic in building them. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Leadership
They offer incredible leadership at the forefront of critical arts issues. Foundation Professional
Youth & Focus
They are young and feisty. They are letting go of the artists-on-the-margin niche. Researcher and Faculty
Program Design
Based on what I know of this organization, they help to support the existence of small and start-up arts organizations, or those that don't envision a long life for themselves. This encourages innovation in terms of both the art and the managements of the arts, which is just what we need at this time. Researcher and Faculty
I don't know much personally about the staff etc. but it seems to be run by a great group of folks attempting to meet a need that has reached critical proportions during the past 2 years. Other
Program Design & Staff
Fractured Atlas is nimble and flexible, with a "close to the ground" approach that allows them to respond to the changing needs of their constituents quickly. The staff is approachable, non-hierarchical, and incredibly knowledgeable. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Materials
Fractured U, their free online "continuing education for do-it-yourself artists," teaches core business skills that artists and arts organizations need to be successful. They use technology exceptionally well to deliver services - from an easy to navigate, informative website to extensive social media networks. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Leadership & Growth
They have a very strong leader and have grown significantly in a few years. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Leadership & Program Design
They are an amazing, dynamic, and energetic group with great ideas and the capabilities to make a big difference in our field now and in the future. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Operations
Their services are streamlined and effective; they are also very technologically savvy. Other

Areas for Improvement

Areas for improvement are varied across respondents. Some note expansion opportunities as well as PR and other operations improvements.

Operations
As noted, this is still an emergent organization: beyond its New York membership base, it as yet has real presence only in California. It may have difficulty getting a truly national membership unless/until it has the capital to make a truly major communications and marketing push. Foundation Professional
Website
The website has too many glitches. Researcher and Faculty
They could use some web-site enhancements and provide more access to monies for professional development. Other
More Self-Promotion
They could toot their own horn more! Nonprofit Senior Staff
Geographic Diversity of Membership
According to their membership stats, the majority of their members are in New York and California. I'd be curious to know if (or how) they are working to increase memberships in other states. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Scalability
The organization has experienced rapid growth and will need to look at the business model and ways to connect with partners that could advance their work. Nonprofit Senior Staff
Expand Programming
I wonder if they could solve the service organization dilemma and create a better way to serve the field across disciplines. Nonprofit Senior Staff
