Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
The Abundant Ground Foundation. We are a small charity with a big heart. Our aim is to serve families, children, teachers and students with donations of clothing, toys, medical supplies, education and food. We have four programs that make up our charity. The Abundant Ground on Long Island, The Abundant Ground in Haiti, The Abundant Ground in NYC, The Abundant Ground in Louisiana .The Abundant Ground on Long Island is a food distribution and clothing program which hands out donations to families and parents on Long Island. The fiscal times has changed for the communities by a lot and too many families have been struggling and left behind. The program, in operation since August of 2008, helps everyone who needs support. The Abundant Ground in Haiti sends donations to Port Au Prince, Jacmel and Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. Our focus in this program is education and food. We want our children, who are without parents, to strive for their future and practice their promise now. With education, supplies and teachers, we are able to do that. We depend on donations from corporate sponsors, local businesses and mid-size companies who generously donate us much of the supplies we need for this program. The Abundant Ground in NYC is a card distribution program for inmates in New York City. The Abundant Ground Foundation believes in restoring family relationships. We know too many inmates return back to prison because they have no family to go back to. This cycle of recidivism can stop with communication. Whether children with parents as inmates or inmates with limited parent presence, we feel, these cards are the beginning to heal hurts, start the talking, help wounds. It is a start to make the hurting whole again. The Abundant Ground in Louisiana is household goods program. We collect and solicit house hold goods (supplies for the kitchen, living-room, bedroom and family room) for families making a new start in their homes. We know having a home is precious and part of families American dream. We want to add our support to other charities in Louisiana who provide the same. For all our programs we solicit private and public donations, monetary and non monetary donations, creative and new support and ideas. Without support from you, we cannot begin to help.

-
Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Program Description:

The Abundant Ground in Haiti provides the families and orphans in Croix -des-Bouquets, Haiti with much needed supplies for school, food, clothing and hygiene products.

Public education is free in Haiti but the costs of uniforms, textbooks, and other school related expenses make it impossible for most struggling parents. Because seventy percent of the population is in abject poverty, made worse by the most recent earthquake disaster, tragically, only sixty-five percent of elementary school-aged children are in primary school and of that number, only thirty five percent will graduate. Without an education, most youths are left with little options for legitimate income, making them vulnerable to crimes and other illegal, dehumanizing activities.

The Abundant Ground in Haiti’s mission is providing food, clothing and school supplies support. Our goal is not only increasing the graduation rate among orphans but instilling the belief that they can accomplish their dream and live their potential.

Offenders/Ex-offenders
Program Description:

The Abundant Ground in NYC provides free holiday cards to inmates in New York City’s Correctional Facilities. Research shows that inmates, who are informed and supported by their families, are less likely to return to prison (DOCS, 2007). During an inmate’s time in prison, many different circumstances happen both the inmate's and family’s life that can take a long time to adjust. In the United States there are at least 1.5 million children who have an incarcerated parent. This causes and contributes to their physical, social and emotional well-being (Adalist-Estrin, 1995). Other research shows that a prison sentence does not improve relationships skills, coping strategies or foster better family functioning. (Swanson, 2004).

The support provided by family members and children to inmates is what The Abundant Ground in NYC wants to strengthen. Outside the experience taught in the correctional facilities, healthy human interactions with family members and children are important too. When there isn’t a tool that enables inmates and families to support each other, the relationship can wane and cause re-offense and recidivism. The mission of The Abundant Ground in NYC is to provide inmates free holiday cards that they may send to their family members and children and foster healthy communication.

The Abundant Ground on Long Foundation is a program help families boost their ability to feed their household. In providing dignified assistance to struggling families, we help those who are not qualified for government aid but nonetheless need the help. The Abundant Ground on Long Island program is based on a privately conducted research of suburban families who confidentially admitted their struggle to buying food though gainfully employed. Residents of Long Island are primarily college educated, homeowners, with a history of long-term employment. Majority of who live in good school districts and neighborhoods. However, due to their income and socio-economic status, they are largely ignored in regards to a financial crisis that cripples their ability to provide food for their families. The objective of the Abundant Ground on Long Island is to enable families during this financial crisis; boost their ability to provide food for their household by giving fresh groceries. The goal of the Abundant Ground on Long Island program is to sustain a quality of life in spite of the surban family economic pressures.
