Mission Statement

New York Public Radio is home to three of the country’s leading public radio stations – WNYC FM, WNYC AM and WQXR FM – as well as New Jersey Public Radio and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. WNYC is a major producer of original content for public radio nationwide. WQXR is New York City’s only all-classical music station. New Jersey Public Radio covers the issues that matter in the garden state and extends New York Public Radio’s news, talk and cultural programming deeper into New Jersey. The Greene Space is a street-front broadcast studio and live venue where audiences can experience our programming in person and online. New York Public Radio’s online platforms include wnyc.org, wqxr.org, njpublicradio.org and thegreenespace.org. New York Public Radio's mission is "to make the mind more curious, the heart more tolerant and the spirit more joyful through excellent radio programming."

Program Description:

WNYC’s Peabody-award winning Radio Rookies program provides teenagers with the tools and training to create radio documentaries about themselves and their communities. Since 1999, WNYC has conducted Radio Rookies workshops across the five boroughs in predominantly under-resourced neighborhoods, training young people to use words and sounds to produce stories that open windows into worlds rarely represented authentically in the media. Radio Rookies stories are broadcast on WNYC during the local edition of NPR's Morning Edition, and also have been heard on NPR's All Things Considered and PRI's This American Life. The Peabody judges hailed the Radio Rookies’ reporting as “remarkably immediate and illuminating.”

Since OTM was re-launched in 2001, it has been one of NPR's fastest growing programs, heard on more than 300 public radio stations. It has won Edward R.
