<div>Writing Program - Writing - America SCORES New York writing workshops reinforce literacy skills by introducing students to the powerful role that language plays in both self-expression and community service. On alternating days from soccer practice, SCORES teams meet with their writing coaches to explore poetry, where their own voices become the context for learning grammar, vocabulary and spoken word performance (Poetry Slams!). </div><div>During the Spring season students are taught the importance of social responsibility and receive and learn different types of civic engagement. With these tools, students identify a need, then design and carry out a service project that addresses that need. Past students’ projects reflected a wide range of concerns, including an anti-violence campaign, the importance of recycling, and how to make healthy lifestyle choices.</div>
