Mission Statement

The purpose of Hands On! The Hudson Valley is to support over 300 local non-profit agencies in the Hudson Valley with volunteer assistance. To this end we promote volunteerism through our web-site, community presentations, community partnerships and work with local media. Once recruited, volunteers are interviewed to establish their interests and matched with a local non-profits in need of service. A secondary purpose of Hands On! is to administer programs that include a volunteer component, namely the Ombudsman Program which recruits, trains, places and supervises volunteers to serve as advocates in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Enriched Housing Facilities and Family Type Homes.

Ellen Ott, Executive Director,is educated in both Nursing and Paralegal Studies. A graduate of New York Hospital school of Nursing and Mercy College she has a varied background in Health Care Management, Risk Management and the Legal System. Ms. Ott was the founding President of the New York State Ombudsman Association and served for two years in this role. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee and continues to work closely with this organization to improve the quality of life in long-term care facilities. Ms. Ott believes that volunteerism is the foundation of any community and continues through Hands On! The Hudson Valley to mobilize community residents to solve community problems.
