Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) is a not-for-profit international organization registered in the state of California and operating entirely within the Kingdom of Cambodia. In a society as broken as Cambodia, the role of education and leadership building is critical. CCF is committed to each child for life, beginning with daycare services at age two, expanding to residential education programs at age six and continuing with transitional programs and workforce placements after a child turns 18. By creating opportunities for leadership and self-expression, CCF's teachings are naturally integrated with the students’ knowledge of their society's opportunities, sensitivities and limitations.
Leadership
Mr. Scott Neeson
Term:
Since
Apr
2004
Profile:
Today, Scott divides his time between the CCF administrative offices and field work in Steung Meanchey and the rural provinces of Cambodia. He knows all 700 children in his care, their names, histories, personalities and aspirations. Having successfully established CCF1 – CCF6, as well as the CCF Community Centre and Daycare Program, Scott's future goals include the expansion of the CCF External Education Program.
Leadership Statement:
Scott Neeson was raised in Elizabeth, South Australia, and launched what was to be a successful career in the film business with a company that operated drive-in movie theaters. He quickly climbed the ranks of the Australian film industry before accepting a position with 20th Century Fox International in Los Angeles. Neeson spent ten years at Fox, ultimately rising to the position of President, where he oversaw the releases of blockbusters such as Titanic, Braveheart, and the new Star Wars trilogy. In 2003, he left Fox to take up a new role at Sony Pictures Entertainment. It was in between these two jobs that Neeson traveled to Phnom Penh and visited Steung Meanchey, the toxic landfill on the outskirts of the city. Stunned by the desperation and unlikely courage of the children living there, Neeson spent the remainder of his holiday laying the foundation for the Cambodian Children’s Fund. By 2004, he had resigned from his position in Hollywood, sold his possessions and moved to Cambodia to oversee CCF as Founder and Executive Director. A full-time resident of Phnom Penh, Neeson is the organization’s key fundraiser and oversees all operations – but it is in Steung Meanchey where he is most known as a daily visitor and welcome member of the community.
Despite CCF’s remarkable expansion, Neeson knows all the children in CCF’s care, their names, histories and personalities. “The best part of the job is the kids,” says Neeson. They have given me more than I could ever expect to pay back.”

Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Program Description:
CCF’s
four residential education centers provide dynamic academic content modeled on
leading U.S., Australian and British education sources, and incorporated with
Cambodian curriculum and culture. Intensive English, computer and health
studies are the focus of the program, and students are also encouraged to study
art and to express themselves through drawing, painting, dance, music and
drama. CCF students are integrated
into the Cambodian Public School system for courses in Khmer reading and
writing, math and science.
In late 2007, CCF also opened its first
satellite school within walking distance of the Steung Meanchey landfill. In
2009, CCF added two more satellite schools to offer free education for 146
youth and adults who lack the means to attend public school, who work full-time
and/or who have full-time family commitments. Regularly attending students
receive nutrient-enhanced bread from CCF’s quality vocational training center,
as well as academic progress awards. CCF also provides many area children the financial support needed to
purchase the uniform, shoes and supplies required to attend public school.

Program Description:
The CCF
Community Center was created in 2007 to provide reliable care within and for
the Steung Meanchey community. At this center families have access to full
on-site health care, food relief, vocational training and maternal care
services. This facility offers counseling in cases of domestic violence,
alcoholism and drug abuse, as well as access to clean drinking water –
essential in an environment where an estimated 80% of illnesses are water
related. As the sense of community has evolved and strengthened, so has the
sense of social evaluation and responsibility. As a result, families have
become more communicative in reporting social problems and material abuses. The
Community Center incorporates a Daycare, Community Nursery, Maternal Care
program, Rice Distribution program, a Vocational Training center and program, and
a Community Medical Clinic.

Youth/Adolescents only (14 - 19 years)
Program Description:
This component of CCF’s programming is invaluable
for older children who have come to CCF with limited schooling, as they are
unlikely to finish high school and proceed to higher studies. CCF’s ambitious
approach begins with self-esteem building and personal management, and
culminates with training in sectors relevant to Cambodia. Age-appropriate
students are offered a range of vocational pursuits, including garment design,
esthetics, IT services, restaurant services, graphics and web design. In tandem
with skills training, CCF also offers coursework and internship opportunities in
Community Leadership Development. In 2009 the organization increased its
vocational services to benefit youth and adults living in the Steung Meanchey
community.
