Program Description:
We support the following programs on a non-profitable and charitable basis: * Improve Availability of Low Vision Rehabilitation Services in under-served areas (currently in India and later planned in other developing countries through our grant programs). * Improve Awareness about Low Vision Rehabilitation issues and emerging solutions, in developing countries by organizing seminars; training programs and awareness initiatives, for both eyes care professionals and the general public. * Promote the Accessibility of electronic information. (A future program)
Program Long-Term Success:
Set up the first dedicated and fully functional low vision rehabilitation center in Visakhapatnam, India, which has served over 600 visually impaired persons since inception, mostly from the neediest segment of Visakha and surrounding rural areas. More than 50% of the patients were below the poverty line and were served free of cost (including the provision of free optical assistive aids). The remaining also paid only a nominal fee to help meet a part of the running cost of the center. Over 80% of the operational cost for the center is met through our grants.
