Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

Mr. Bubble® and the Jolly Green Giant® have made such a connection with the general population that it’s difficult to imagine a world without them. Characters used in advertising become part of the fabric of popular culture and emerge not just as physical symbols of the products for which they were created, but as icons that have come to characterize the values of entire generations. The Advertising Icon Museum will be the permanent home to the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame. Each year the public votes online for their two favorite icons and tag lines that they believe should be inducted into the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame. The museum will display and offer an educational interpretation of each inductee. The museum will house a 3,000-piece icon collection that will be displayed in a larger-than-life style house. The collection is made up of three-dimensional objects and original printed materials and is supported by radio and television advertisements.

Leadership

Mr. Howard Taft Boasberg

Term:

Since July 2004

Profile:

Howard Boasberg built a career and two agencies proving that national public relations could be successfully accomplished from Kansas City. In the 1960s, Boasberg joined Robert Bernstein and Skip Rein to form Bernstein-Rein & Boasberg, where he was the director of client service and public relations. In 1981 he formed The Boasberg Company, which grew to become one of the 50 largest independent public relations agencies in the United States.

Leadership Statement:

The Advertising Icon Museum will serve the public in a number of ways. It will be educational, informative, inspirational, colorful, exciting, nostalgic, historic, stimulating and, most of all, fun. It will provide a pop cultural experience for people of all ages, backgrounds and interests as it explores the many ways characters created just for use in advertising have become woven into the fabric of modem life. It will be a survey of history and a look at what's happening now. And because advertising is as vibrant an industry now as ever, ours is a living museum that will continue to evolve with the times.
