Program Description:
<div>The organization, as part of its community development iniitiatives and in keeping with the policies outlined in the Highway Park Plan, is working to develop a weekend farmers and arts market along the major traffic arterial of Highway 27. The market will feature local, seasonal, organically grown fruits and vegetables. It will also provide an outlet for skilled artisans to present their work and homegrown crafts. Residents will be able to market their products at little cost to them. </div>
Program Long-Term Success:
<div>A thriving Farmer's and Arts Market will provide a venue by which local citizens can sell locally grown produce. The selected area has high visibility to a main highwy and easy access off the main road. It is ideally located approximately 1.2 miles from a major town and a new development of 250 homes is slated for the next 3 - 10 years. The program is sustainable since the main industry in the area is agricultural. There are many successful farmers markets but few are as ideally situated as the location selected for this market. There is ample land to raise crops and the residents are familiar with farming.</div>
Program Short-Term Success:
<div>The farmer's market will start small and be allowed to grow organically based on customer participation and sales. </div>
Program Success Monitored by:
<div>The number of vendors participating in the program and the number of guests drawn to the market. </div>
