Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
<p>2011 was an incredible year of growth for Envirolution. Envirolution has experienced a growth in revenue over 30% compared to 2010. In addition, we increased the size and commitment from our Board of Directors, changed and adopted new bylaws, drafted and approved a set of Policies and Procedures for the organization. </p><div>We have officially completed our energy efficiency curriculum for middle and high school students and our solar and geothermal modules are currently under development. </div><div> </div><div>We also have completed managing two programs at Reed High School and North Valleys High School, in partnership with the local solar company, Hamilton Solar. We worked with 5 teachers and over 270 students on our STEM-based energy efficiency and the initial launch of our solar curriculum. Envirolution also worked with High Desert Montessori School.<br /></div> In addition this year, we have administered two professional development workshops on our energy efficiency curriculum with 15 teachers in Las Vegas and Reno, through support from GreenPower. In addition, this summer we have developed and launched the first Three Spheres Leadership Academy program. This academy is the next level in sustainability and entrepreneurial youth leadership training for 16-20 year olds. <p>Finally, on March 1, 2012, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, at its annual Leadership Awards Program, presented Envirolution with the Organizational Education Award. In addition, Senator Harry Reid’s office presented Envirolution with a Certificate of Commendation upon Envirolution receiving the education award from the U.S. Green Building Council.Our goals focus around educating the leaders and citizens that will help drive the growth of the green economy. Through service-learning education programs, we aim to increase the demand for green products and services while simultaneously training the individuals who will run these green businesses.</p><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div>

<p>Alex was born and raised in Reno, NV. He attended Yale university where he played basketball all four years and graduated with a degree in Economics. College also was the place where Alex found his new passion of wanting to give back to the community and make the world a better place. He believed business could be a lever of positive change and an interest in real estate led him to follow a career in real estate while working to develop a non-profit, Envirolution. Since college Alex has worked for several real estate companies doing development and brokerage. He has also taught at a high school and tutored elementary school kids. He is currently ecstatic to be working full-time as the Executive Director of Envirolution! He created his green job!</p> <p>Alex remains active in the community, even outside of Envirolution. He is on the Board of Directors for the Sierra Kids Foundation, on the Advisory Board for the Great Basin Food Co-op, on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Governor of Nevada’s New Energy Industry Taskforce , and a member of the Nevada Energy Efficiency Strike Force Team. </p>

Three Spheres Leadership Academy is the next level in sustainability and entrepreneurial youth leadership training. TSLA is a combination of classroom training and hands-on field experiences designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and networks to prepare our youth to be the green business and community leaders of our future, while simultaneously empowering them to make a positive contribution to our community right now.

Program Description:
The STEM Teachers Academy Program (STEMTAP) is a collaboration between Envirolution, HomeFree Nevada, and the U.S. Green Building Council that will provide teachers with the hands-on experience, knowledge, and resources to bring building science into the classroom through an innovative STEM-based curriculum. It will also educate students and teachers about the benefits of efficiency by implementing home improvements.

Program Description:
Envirolution helped organize the GREENevada coalition, which is a partnership of seven non-profit organizations that are working to engage schools and students in sustainability. Currently the coalition runs an annual high school sustainability plan competition for northern Nevada high schools.
