The Arc of New Jersey is an affiliated chapter of <a href="http://www.thearc.org">The Arc of the United States</a>, and community-based services are available statewide through a strong network of <a href="http://digital-community.com/demo/arcnj.org/about/local_chapters.html">local county chapters</a>.</em></div>

Profile:
Thomas Baffuto was named Executive Director in June, 1998. A seventeen-year veteran of The Arc, he previously held the position of Associate Executive Director; he also started The Arc of New Jersey's supported employment program, Project HIRE, in 1985 and served as it first Director. Tom has published articles on the topics of supported employment and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He is past President of the New Jersey Association for Persons in Supported Employment (APSE), and in 2001 he was honored with the Martin Papish Award by the state chapter and in 2002 with the APSE Excellence in Leadership Award.

<div>Project HIRE is The Arc of New Jersey's award-winng, CARF-accredited supported employment and school-to-work transition program. Employment Development Specialists support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in securing fair-wage community-based employment and Employment Training Specialists provide on-the-job training and ongoing support to ensure long-term stability in employment. Project HIRE also provides transition services to high school students with disabilities to ensure a smooth transition from school to adult employment. </div>

<div>The Developmentally Disabled Offenders Program (DDOP) provides alternatives to incarceration on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are defendants in the criminal justice system. The DDOP also serves as a clearinghouse of infomation regarding offenders with disabilities and serves as a liaison between the criminal justice and human service systems as offenders with disabilities move between the two.</div>
