<p>Joining Alder Health in 1999, Mr. Goropoulos has guided that agency to firm financial and programmatic ground during a time of tremendous change both in the AIDS epidemic and in U.S./world economy. As result of his work and innovations, Mr. Goropoulos received the Jeffrey Zonis Leadership Award from Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania in November 2004, was showcased by the Patriot-News as one of the region’s Twenty in Their Twenties in February 2005 and was named one of Central Pennsylvania’s Forty under Forty by the Central Penn Business Journal in October 2006. Mr. Goropoulos holds a B.A. in English and American Studies from Dickinson College and a master's in Non-Profit Management from Regis University.</p>

Program Description:
The Care and Supportive Services Department of AIDS Community Alliance works to provide the skills, knowledge and resources necessary to enhance and sustain the quality of life of individuals infected with HIV and their families in south central Pennsylvania.
All of the care and supportive services offered by the agency are provided in a deployed service delivery model. The service model allows staff to provide the requested programs and services in any setting that is mutually agreeable to the client and member of the ACA staff whether that location is at a restaurant, at another social service agency, at a medical provider or even in the client?s home.
Services are provided in a client-driven, strengths-based perspective that allows individuals accessing the services to determine their needs and in what programs they wish to participate. The level of involvement of each client is self-determined.
*Individuals interested in accessing care and supportive services are required to complete an intake in order to enroll in services.

Program Description:
The Education Services of AIDS Community Alliance are dedicated to providing individuals in south central Pennsylvania with the knowledge, the skills and the resources necessary to make decisions and choices that reduce their level of risk for HIV infection. The department offers the community a wide-range of programming from information tables at community health fairs to individual prevention counseling and group presentations.
ACA offers a variety of HIV awareness and education presentations. Each discussion is specially designed for the specific group to whom the information is being presented. Programs are presented in a culturally sensitive and audience-appropriate fashion.
Tailored presentations are available for the following audiences:
-Churches and Faith-Based Organizations (Both Adult & Youth)
-High Schools (Grades 9 - 12)
-Middle Schools (Grades 6 - 8)
-Elementary Schools (Grades k - 5)
-Colleges & Universities
-Teacher Education Programs
-Workplace Education and Training Programs
-Staff Development Programs
-Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs
In addition to our work with the general community, ACA has implemented programs targeting individuals at greatest risk for HIV infection in south central Pennsylvania. The targeted interventions offer peer-based programming to:
-The African-American Community (Cumberland Promise)
-Injection Drug Users and Their Partners (STEPS)
-Women (WORTH)
-Men Who Have Sex With Men (Men 4 Men)

-Increases awareness of HIV and the risk-factors that could lead to infection
-Educates individuals and the community of ways in which they may reduce their risk of possible infection
-Connects individuals to HIV counseling and testing services in the community including 5 public sites operated by agency staff

Program Description:
Housing = Health
Without the ability to maintain housing, the health of individuals living with HIV greatly suffers. AIDS Community Alliance coordinates two housing programs as a part of the State of Pennsylvania's Housing Opportunities for People with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) program. The program is designed to assist individuals living with HIV of lower socio-economic status maintain housing.
Both housing programs offered by ACA have financial requirements and limits for participation
Tenant-Based Rental Assistance
Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) helps to assure stable housing for individuals and families impacted by HIV/AIDS. The program provides eligible individuals living with HIV with a limited amount of monthly rent assistance. The eligible amount is determined by the program applicant's income and the fair market value of their residence.
Short-Term Rental, Mortgage, Utility Assistance
Short-Term Rental, Mortgage, Utility Assistance (STRA) helps individuals and families living with HIV get back on their feet by providing immediate financial assistance to alleviate a threat to permanent housing or essential utilities. The program can provide funds toward, rent mortgage or utility assistance.
Individuals are limited in the number of times they may access the program each year.
