He also earned his bachelors degree from University of Michigan. He can relate almost anything to baseball, and holds the University of Michigan’s team close to his heart.

His fascination with maritime history began during a honeymoon trip to Mystic Seaport, with his then, new bride, Karen. The two recently celebrated an anniversary at Mystic, this time as the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s president and his wife.

Shook serves on the board of the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, where he sits on its conservation, land use planning, and long range planning committees. He also serves on the advisory board with the Talbot County Office of Tourism and previously with the St. Michaels Nature Trail Committee.

Shook is a member of the Audubon Naturalist Society, the Maryland Native Plant Society, Choptank River Eastern Bay Conservancy, and the Maryland League of Conservation Voters.
