Mission Statement
<div><div>Luke’s Wings is an organization dedicated to the support of service members who have been wounded in battle. Recognizing the immediate need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Luke’s Wings provides families with the means to visit during the service member’s hospitalization and rehabilitation. By purchasing travel agency services and travel tickets for loved ones, Luke’s Wings provides an immediate and invaluable service to the families of our men and women at arms while also helping to encourage and motivate the service member’s recovery.</div><div><br /></div><div>In 2011, Luke’s Wings expanded the mission to also include Texas Veterans during major life events and all Veterans in Hospice Care. As such; a Texas Veteran may be with their family during a major life event. A Veteran in Hospice Care may be surrounded by loved ones as they pass away.</div><div><br /></div><div>Today, the majority of requests are for World War II Veterans, Korean War Veterans, and Vietnam War Veterans in elderly care facilities or long term inpatient care facilities. Luke’s Wings regards the Veterans in Hospice Care Program as a “final salute” to the greatest generation that ever lived.</div><div><br /></div><div>While individual donations may be made directly on our website, Luke’s Wings also asks corporations to support our cause with corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations. </div><div><br /></div><div>Recognizing the difficulties families encounter as they make their way to their loved ones’ side, Luke’s Wings purchases the plane tickets and plans the trips, then Luke’s Wings partners with other non profit who can provide other services including, but not limited to, free or discounted accommodations, meals, entertainment, local travel vouchers, city tours, etc.</div></div>

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
The need to reunite wounded soldiers with their families is great. There are an estimated 33,000 US military men and women who are wounded and recovering military hospitals across the country. The US government is only able to provide three (3) flights for family members to see them in the hospital. Luke’s Wings is an organization dedicated to filling that void and to support service members who have been wounded in battle. Recognizing the immediate need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Luke’s Wings provides families with the means to visit during the service members hospitalization and rehabilitation. Our wounded warriors are the most deserving group of Americans in immediate need of travel tickets and travel planning services. By purchasing travel agency services and travel tickets for loved ones, Luke’s Wings provides an immediate and invaluable service to the families of our men and women at arms while also helping to encourage and motivate the service members recovery. Wounded service men and women having family on site and by their bedsides during their long and difficult recovery and endless surgeries is critical. Having family and loved ones by their bedsides helps pass the time, but also boosts their spirits, and in the most extreme cases, helps alleviate depression and reduce the risk of suicide.

Leadership Statement:
Luke’s Wings provides a unique and invaluable service to our men and women who have sacrificed for the safety and security of our country. The least we can do in return is to keep the families of our wounded warriors together as they endure some of their darkest moments. The rehabilitation process is much longer, years longer, than most people realize and it creates a ripple effect, a financial and emotional ripple effect on military families that need not be there. Luke’s Wings, a White House Joining Forces honoree, steps in and tries to take care of one of the largest financial line items in the recovery process, which is keeping the families together. We cannot do it alone- we rely heavily on the support from corporations, business, individuals and partnerships. What may seem so small or ordinary—a simple plane ticket—means the world to our military families. It never ceases to amaze us how the simple action of saying ‘Yes’ to a flight request alleviates so much burden and that is why we continue this mission, without hesitation.
