Mission Statement

The International Information Policy Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
non-profit public charity under US tax law, includes the International Journal for Media and Information
Policy, launching in 2012, and conducts research on the role of information and its stakeholders in international relations and humanitarian affairs.

Information bestows power; at risk communities need information
as much as water, food and medicine, or shelter.

-- Markku
Niskala, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross
and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

Within the last twenty
years, with the dawn of what is becoming known as an ever and
exponentially exploding Information Age, a new, formalized area of
policy discourse has begun to take root in International Relations:
Media and Information Policy (MIP).*

Peer reviewed, The
Journal of Media and Information Policy (MIPJ) seeks to better
examine the role of information and its implications in International
Relations -- how it is gathered, analyzed, and disseminated; via what
medium; to what population; and for what purpose -- and the role such
information and means of dissemination play as critical stakeholders
unto themselves in both the microcosm and macrocosm of humanitarian and
international affairs.

*Note on the definition of “Media”: “Media” in this case is not to
be confused with “Mass Media,” but instead denotes the medium through
which information itself is disseminated, and through what particular
low- and/or high- technology apparatus.
