Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

In 2011 MMDR led 8 teams into Thomazeau, Haiti and Kete Krachi, Ghana to medically provide for the poor and vulnerable in those areas. In Ghana, MMDR held clinics in an area where child slavery is rampant. Working closely with a Ghanaian agency that advocates for these children, MMDR’s medical clinics were used as leverage in the release of 6 children. These MMDR teams also installed 900 gallon tanks on 3 separate islands and purified the water for these villagers who had never had access to clean drinking water. Hundreds of patients were treated daily in these clinics, all of whom were blessed and prayed over. In addition to the work in Ghana, thousands of Haitian patients were seen at the free MMDR medical clinics in 2011. A house for an elderly homeless woman was erected by MMDR volunteers as well as an eating pavilion in a local orphanage. A partnership with said orphanage has resulted in MMDR providing funding for the 50 children who live there.

The ongoing work in Haiti has revealed a need for permanence in that area. In 2012 MMDR hopes to complete phase I of the LIVE BEYOND base in Haiti. This consists of the purchase of 23 acres in Haiti, and construction of an orphanage, guest housing and a hospital. Along with this work, MMDR is looking for areas to help in the improvement of the town of Thomazeau, by repairing the pump for the town’s water source and installing an inline purifier for that water. The big picture for all of the work done at MMDR is to see God glorified through loving and caring for those who need His mercy and grace.

Pemba, Mozambique
- Budget:
-
$113,337
- Category:
-
International, Foreign Affairs & National Security
- Population Served:
-
Adults
-
Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)
Program Description:
In the region of Pemba, land was dedicated for the site of a new hospital. We have committed to fund the build of this facility, its operations for 3 years, and the provision of medical supplies. Two physicians were secured to run the hospital. Plans were made for a curriculum to educate local women. Nurses would provide training in disease prevention, clean water initiatives and baby care. A mobile medical unit was purchased to serve the "bush" and outlying areas. A Land Rover has been purchased by MMDR for use as a mobile medical unit in Mozambique. Specially equipped with a stretcher, generator and medical refrigeration, it will serve to carry medicine and medical personnel to areas that would otherwise be without medical attention. Currently, the medical team in Pemba is spending several weekends a month driving to remote villages to reach the sick. Our team is able to diagnose and provide proper medical treatment to these patients.
