Program Description:
<div>The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps' camp services program assists with the establishment of new camps around the world and maintaining the highest quality of existing camp programs. We provide potential future camps with consultations to help build their camp locations, establish programming, train staff members, and develop their strategic plans. In addition, we monitor our camps and programs annually to ensure that all of them maintain the superior level of performance required at a camp that bears the 'Hole in the Wall Camp' name.</div>
Program Long-Term Success:
<div>The goal of this program area is to ensure sustainable expansion of our high-quality medical specialty camps and programs around the world. Currently we have 11 operating camps, seven Global Partnership Initiative Programs, and nine camps and programs in various stages of development. Our goal is to have all of these camps and programs up and running by 2012.</div>
Program Short-Term Success:
<div>
<p>There are three camps curently under construction. One is nearing completion and hopes to begin serving children in the upcoming year. The other two are busy with fundraising and construction and are expecting to be operational within the next two years. These camps will greatly expand the number of children and families affected by serious medical conditions that our programs can serve.</p></div>
Program Success Monitored by:
<div>
<p>We monitor the success of our new camp development program through peer visits, quarterly benchmarks and evaluation of the site, activities, and medical programs according to our high standards.</p></div>
Program Success Examples:
<p>In 2009, Camp Korey, in Washington (USA), completed the steps necessary to obtain provisional membership in the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. Obtaining provisional membership acknowledges the camp’s progress towards being a full member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. Camp Korey can now use the name ’Hole in the Wall Camp’ in their fundraising and promotional materials and benefit from staff member development and discussion forums hosted by the Association. Full membership will be granted once Camp Korey demonstrates that they meet all of the standards of a full member camp. They have now completed their second summer season of camp, underwent construction to become universally accessible, and opened an adaptive ski program.</p>
<p>Further expansion of the family of camps was celebrated in 2009 with groundbreakings at two additional provisional camps in Colorado (USA) and Ohio (USA). Both camps are busy with fundraising and construction, and are expected to become fully operational in the next 2 years. In addition, our member camp in Israel is completing their construction and hopes to begin serving children in the upcoming year. The Association is working closely with camp staff members to support their progress during this exciting time.</p>

Program Description:
Global Partnership Initiative (GPI) programs serve children with serious medical conditions (predominately HIV and AIDS) from the developing world. A unique program of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, the GPI programs create partnerships with medical partners and organizations in the operating countries, resulting in long-term skill and capacity building in the local community. Built on the Hole in the Wall Camp model, GPI programs are adapted to fit the cultural context, addressing the social and emotional needs of the children. Activities include daily sports, arts and crafts, singing, and life skills, disease education, medication adherence and decision making. The result is a locally designed, culturally applicable program that excites, inspires, and empowers children to regain their sense of optimism, possibility and hope. There are currently seven GPI programs located in Africa and Southeast Asia and we have plans to expand the GPI programs to Latin America this year.
Program Long-Term Success:
<div>The Global Partnership Initiative aims to establish programs throughout the world where children with serious medical conditions would benefit from the excitement, inspiration, and empowerment of the child-centered Hole in the Wall Camp experience. Our goal is to help as many eligible children as possible regain their sense of optimism, possibility and hope.</div>
Program Short-Term Success:
<div>We are currently working with strategic implementing partners to establish GPI programs in the Dominican Republic and Paraguay within the next year. By 2012, we hope to have GPI programs in 12 countries around the world.</div>
Program Success Monitored by:
<div>Success is monitored by program evaluations and field consultant notes. In addition, success is ensured through ongoing staff trainings, annual network meetings, and staff exchanges. During these opportunities staff members of partner organizations are able to gather and discuss challenges, notable practices, and advance their facilitation and leadership skills. Discussions reinforce the Hole in the Wall philosophies with program leaders and create opportunities for ongoing collaboration between programs.</div>
Program Success Examples:
<div>In 2009, our Global Partnership Initiative (GPI) started programs in Ethiopia, Malawi, Swaziland, and Cambodia. In addition, we gathered leaders from our seven Global Partnership Initiative (GPI) programs in Africa and Asia together for the annual Global Network Meeting in October, 2009.</div>
