Why does this matter? Without clarity around their responsibilities and expectations, board members are not positioned to succeed. They may find themselves challenged to fulfill their governance responsibilities or frustrated by the expectations that the organization has set for them. BoardSource recommends that every new board member participate in a formal orientation process, and that all board members sign a pledge or agreement committing to their board service and to all of the responsibilities and expectations that come with service. Program Description:

Common Ground serves the Athens community through supporting organizations that work for progressive social change. Whether your organization is brand new or older than Common Ground, we can give you or help you find the assistance you need. Trainings for You and Your Members. Common Ground's training programs can help you with anything from fundraising to gardening to campaign planning. Guided, Hosted Interns to Carry Out Your Projects. The Common Ground Internship Consortium supports current and recent undergraduate students as they work in teams for three-month projects. Participants work from the Common Ground office, where we provide supervision and foster collaboration between projects. Library of Nonprofit Resources. Our lending library contains a range of titles on strategic planning, fundraising, nonprofit marketing, and board development, plus collections on a range of issue areas. Meeting and Planning Facilitation. Our network of experienced facilitators can help you with a two-hour meeting, a three-day strategic planning retreat, or anything in between. Meeting and Event Space. Our flexible meeting spaces can be used for presentations, informal gatherings, or sit-down meetings. Publicity For Your Work. Common Ground regularly features affiliate groups' work in our activities. Our community calendar also highlights affiliates' events. Direct Management Assistance Through Fiscal Sponsorship. Common Ground offers fiscal sponsorship for affiliate groups doing exempt activities who don't have 501(c)(3) status.
