The mission of The National Children's Cancer Society is to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families worldwide.We serve as a financial, emotional and educational resource for those in need at every stage of illness and recovery. In the United States, we ease the financial burdens that accompany major illness, give crucial support and address the challenges of survivorshiwe provide lifesaving pharmaceutical drugs and medical supplies to facilities that treat children with cancer.

Why does this matter? Without clarity around their responsibilities and expectations, board members are not positioned to succeed. They may find themselves challenged to fulfill their governance responsibilities or frustrated by the expectations that the organization has set for them. Program Description:

The Pediatric Oncology Program (POP) was created to offer financial and emotional support to families throughout the United States during their cancer treatment.  POP lessens the family's financial strain by helping with the ongoing expenses of treatment such as meal assistance, gas money, transportation and in some cases, even health insurance premiums.  This gives some added peace of mind to those parents whose incomes have become affected by their child's illness.

Program Description:

Beyond the Cure (BTC) was created to help educated families and survivors on life beyond a cancer diagnosis.  BTC offers the most up-to-date information available on survivorship. Families are tauht the importance of maintaining complete medical records and made aware of the long-term effects of cancer treatment.  Our Late Effects Assessment Tool allows survivors to pinpoint the potential effects of their specific diagnosis and treatment to better prepare them for any challenges that lie ahead.

Since 1993, the Global Outreach Program has provided more than $267 million in donated pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and supportive care products to over 41 countries.  The 58 facilities we support have treated more than 100,000 children outside of the U.S. for pediatric cancer.  By coordinating the donation and distribution of these much needed products, the NCCS is working to make a long-term postive impact on the survival rates of children with cancer around the globe.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

The NCCS is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization offering children and their families the strength, assistance and financial support they need to cope with their disease.  We help to ease the family’s financial burden throughout their cancer treatment.  We also offer ongoing emotional support and advocacy, the latest educational resources and the much-needed feeling of hope.  Since our inception in 1987, the organization has successfully eased the financial burdens and fears of more than 30,000 families facing childhood cancer. The Pediatric Oncology Program has distributed over $54 million in financial assistance to families with children in treatment, our Beyond the Cure Survivorship Program has helped educate and support hundreds of childhood cancer survivors, and the Global Outreach Program has provided more than $267 million in donated pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to 51 pediatric oncology treatment centers outside the US.
