Mission Statement
AIM was founded in 1983, because the founder suffered from unrelenting panic attacks, and had suffered for 20 yrs with no one to help. Doctors were not educated on the condition. Upon recovering, she wanted to help other individuals with the same problem. The first group had 20 people, but soon grew to 10 groups, both in and out of state. Recovery is not a secret, and using behavioral and cognitive tools seems to be the answer. We provide a hot line, field trips and literature. Our goal is help anxious individuals and provide help and support, while educating the public, also. In this way, our hope is to destigmatize this condition.

Leadership
Mrs. Mary Ann Gogoleski
Profile:
Mary Ann Gogoleski suffered with panic and anxiety since the age of 12. At one point, she became housebound for one year. She attended college for 3 and a half years, but because of money and panic could not continue. Her recovery story is based solely on her desire to be well, and then to help others.
She started AIM with not experience, but obtained it as time went on. She has served on the board of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and has attended many of their weekly conferences. She has helped to write 3 research articles, along with Dr. Bruce Thyer, from Georgia. AIM has obtained assistance from several organizations, such as SEMSAS (Southeastern Michigan Substance Abuse Services), to show the correlation between alcohol and panic. Also the Detroit Free Press and Wayne County Community Mental Health Organization.
Throughout time she has become a Social Work Technician, and has helped many individuals regain their life as functioning people.
