Profile:

Beverly Dusso, President/Executive Director, has been with Tubman since 1989. During her tenure she has built the agency from two duplexes on Oakland Avenue to a $10 million organization with services throughout the metropolitan area and a national reputation in violence prevention, mental and chemical health services. Prior to joining Tubman, Ms. Dusso led major ballet companies as the General Manager of Miami City, Houston, and Ohio Ballets, and the Minnesota Dance Theater and School. She began her career with an executive internship at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Dusso serves on and chaired the Bolz Center for Arts Administration Advisory Board (UW-Madison) and the UW-Madison Business School Advisory Board. She has served as a board member of the United Way of Washington County - East, the Minneapolis United Way, and the Clear Channel Local Community Advisory Board. In the recent past, Dusso co-chaired the Northeast Chapter of the Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing (MICAH), and was past president of the Minneapolis United Way Council of Agency Executives and the St Croix Council of Agency Executives. She received Women VentureÕs Pioneer Award in 2005, and was named a Woman of Distinction by Century College, Minnesota in 2008.

Program Description:

Tubman Family Alliance not only operates three emergency shelters for women and children fleeing abuse?the agency also provides a holistic array of wrap-around services for all members of the family covering such areas as counseling, legal aid, transitional support services, job placement and training, transitional housing and housing assistance, health care, developmental screening for children, day care services, violence prevention curriculum for students grades one to twelve in 33 metro area schools, web-based support services, and programs for men and women who have been abusive. Tubman Family Alliance provides accessible and responsive services for all members of the family. We provide men, women and children with the support they need to transform their lives to become emotionally fulfilling, balanced and free of violence and abuse. The agency?s philosophy is based upon helping clients find their strengths?their capacities, talents, competencies, possibilities, visions, values and hopes?and to build upon these strengths as they become physically, spiritually and emotionally whole.

Program Long-Term Success:

In 2003, Tubman Family Alliance provided nearly 135,000 individual services to over 52,000 men, women, and children throughout the Twin Cities at every stage of life and from virtually every racial and demographic grou293 women and children at three shelter sites -- Legal services for 2,004 clients in three counties -- Jobs, education, housing and other services for 647 clients in transition from violence -- Programs for 200 men and women who have behaved abusively -- Violence prevention programming for 2,438 students in three metro-area counties -- Community outreach reaching thousands through 383 presentations in social service, civic, faith-based, business and other community settings.
