Program Description:
The <strong>World Savvy
Challenge<sup></sup></strong> is an academic program on international affairs
for middle and high school youth. This program engages more than 2,500
students annually in San
Francisco and Minneapolis-St. Paul in research,
teamwork, presentation and problem-solving addressing a global theme with
panels of volunteer judges from the community. Students have addressed
such themes as <em>Contemporary Conflict and Peace Building, Global Health,
Hunger, Human Rights and the Child</em>, <em>The Global Marketplace</em>, <em>Human Migration</em>, <em>Water</em>, and <em>Food</em>. In 2012, students
will examine issues related to the annual theme of <em><strong>Sustainable Communities</strong></em>. They learn to
think creatively about the solutions to a wide range of issues, and
transfer that knowledge and motivation into service to their community.

Program Description:
The
<strong>Media and Arts Program</strong>
(MAP) is an inter-disciplinary arts education program offered in San Francisco and New
York. In the MAP, youth participate in theme-related
workshops and fieldtrips to explore critical global issues in their local
communities, and create original artwork for
public exhibition. Educators receive training, customized support, and
curriculum resources to integrate global content in their teaching across
disciplines. From 2010 to 2013 students and teachers explore the theme of <em>Sustainable Communities</em> in this
program.

These services include:<strong><em> </em> </strong></p><div>1) Global Competency Audit - World Savvy works with schools to assess global competency in teaching and learning environments; and <br /></div><div><strong><em><u></u> </em></strong></div><div> </div><div>2) Global Issues Content Workshops - World Savvy offers professional development workshops on a range of topics designed to enhance teachers’ content knowledge and capacity to address global issues in classroom instruction.<br /></div><div> </div><div> World Savvy also provides specialized services for schools and cultural institutions with specifically defined needs in global education, including: program design and development, curriculum development, professional development design and facilitation, and experiential learning plans. These services vary widely in their application within schools, community organizations and cultural institutions nationwide. </div>

American Youth Leadership Program - Bangladesh Exchange

Program Description:
The American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. World Savvy has partnered with the Bureau to run an AYLP to Bangladesh focused on climate change during the 2011-12 school year, with the goal of fostering mutual understanding, respect, and civic engagement among young Americans and their Bangladeshi peers. The AYLP to Bangladesh is a unique opportunity for 30 U.S. high school students and five educators to explore their interest in the critical issues of climate change, delving into the problem firsthand through a four-week trip to Bangladesh. Upon return to the United States, program participants will implement action projects designed during the trip to address climate change issues.
