Mission Statement

<div>In 1974, the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, a health advocacy organization, was incorporated as a 501(c)3 charity, whose mission is to eradicate the incidence of Reye's Syndrome.</div><div> </div><div>Although believed to be primarily a children's disease, Reye's Syndrome can strike any age, gender, and race. Typically following a viral illness (cold, influenza, chicken pox, etc.), Reye's Syndrome affects all organs of the body, but targets the liver and the brain. </div><div> </div><div>Early diagnosis is essential if treatment is to be successful. To date, the cause and cure remain a mystery. Studies have shown that using aspirin and salicylate-containing medications to treat the symptoms of viral illnesses increase the chance of developing Reye's Syndrome. </div><div> </div>

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit

<div>In an effort to eradicate the incidence of Reye's Syndrome among children, this past year, 2011, the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation met with the FDA, and together, we persuaded all major aspirin manufacturers to voluntarily remove the term 'baby aspirin' from all packaging and marketing, and replace the term with "low-dose aspirin". This has been a major goal for the NRSF for 37 years.<br /></div><div> </div><div>Consumers and their children will benefit from this move by the aspirin manufacturers by eliminating the confusion surrounding the use of what was once known as 'baby' aspirin. Mistakes in using this drug will be lessened, and young lives will be spared.<br /></div>

We provided the research and produced treatment data for medical professionals. We provide research grants, desperately searching for a cause and cure for Reye's Syndrome. <br /></div><div> </div><div>For 39 years we have guarded the lives of every child across the globe.
