Mission Statement
Wesley Housing Development Corporation's mission is to develop, own, operate, and maintain affordable housing and sustain quality communities for low- and moderate-income persons in Northern Virginia. By combining quality affordable housing with on-site educational and supportive services, Wesley Housing helps families break the cycle of poverty, achieve economic independence, and even become homeowners.

Wesley Housing’s service-enriched housing program combines permanent, affordable rental housing with supportive services to build strong, stable families and communities. In over 38 years, we have developed 25 properties and have served over 20,000 low- and moderate-income (LMI) individuals. Wesley Housing is currently serving nearly 2,200 adults and children in its 20 affordable rental communities (1,137 units).

Shelley Murphy joined Wesley Housing as President/CEO in 2007. A former senior executive with Verizon Communications, Ms. Murphy brought organizational experience in strategic business growth to Wesley Housing’s award‐winning affordable housing programs. She provides strategic direction and general executive leadership for theentire organization and builds relationships with key stakeholders. Shehas extensive government contracting experience with the federal government and various state and local governments and understands how to implement a complex project with multiple stakeholders.Strongly committed to improving the lives of individuals and families in her community, Murphy is a member of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee for Fairfax County, the Communities of Faith United for Housing, and sits on the Boards of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) and the Virginia Housing Coalition. She also serves as an Advisory Board member for Virginia CommunityCapital. Murphy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Russian and International Studies and a Master of Business Administration from Willamette University. Ms. Murphy was awarded the Verizon Chairman’s Award in 2004 and 2005 for her cross‐business achievements and proven results in operations, financial management, and organizationalchange.

Program Description:
The nonprofit corporation provides services and programs to assist in the development and management of affordable housing communities for low- and moderate-income persons to include seniors, families, children, persons with severe mobility impairments, individuals with chronic disease and disabilities. Four Community Resource Centers offer programs that provide valuable skills and resources to help families earn higher wages and attain economic independence (like computer training classes and English for Speakers of Other Languages). They also provide programs for children including homework help, reading assistance, and summer enrichment programs. Four Resident Services Centers provide supportive services to seniors and persons with disabilities. Services include referrals to community resources, health screenings and recreational activities.
Program Long-Term Success:
Have provided affordable permanent homes to over 20,000 very low-, low, and moderate-income individuals, families, children, seniors and persons with disabilities since 1974.
Program Short-Term Success:
Pierce Queen Apartments - Arlington County recently approved our site plan on the Ft. Myer Heights North in Arlington. The number of affordable units will increase from 50 to nearly 200. We are working with The Bozzuto Group on this project.

Program Success Examples:
Wesley Housing is celebrating the renovation and grand opening of Colonial Village Apartments in early April 2013. This $14.2 million renovation preserves 162 units. Of these units, 129 are for those in need of affordable housing, including units compliant with ADA specifications and larger units to accommodate larger families. The community was recently selected as EarthCraft Virginia's Multifamily Renovation Project of the Year and a recipient of a Sustainable Leadership Award.Fairly recently, Wesley Housing repurchased all 128 units at Strawbridge Square Apartments in Fairfax County, renovated the entire community, and prevented the displacement of 375 lower income residents. Since 1974, we have housed more than 20,000 low- to moderate-income individuals and provided supportive services.Current communities - 20 Current housing units - 1,137 Current residents - over 2,100
