Orchestral Performances: To honor nine decades of musical mastery, the BSO will present some of the notable works commissioned over its last 90 years - works such as Christopher Rouse's Symphony No. 1 and John Corigliano's Red Violin Concerto.
National and local broadcast: Baltimore Symphony partners with National Public Radio's highly regarded music program Performance Today broadcasting in more than 200 cities throughout the United States. Locally, the BSO is featured on the NPR news station (WYPR, 88.1 FM) on two weekly programs: ""Backstage at the BSO,"" lively discussion show of the music and guests soloists/conductors performing each week with the Orchestra; and ""Onstage With the BSO,"" a 2-hour program featuring archival recordings of live performances, recorded at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
Education and Family Programs For 80 years, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has demonstrated a powerful commitment to young audiences. More than 70,000 people attend the BSO?s educational and family programs annually, from school systems throughout Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.
Program Long-Term Success:
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is a leader among North American orchestras in the number of education concerts presented and the number of students served annually. About 20 concerts are performed each season for over 30,000 students, ages 3-14. Students regularly come from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Carroll, Montgomery, Prince George's and Queen Anne's counties in Maryland; Baltimore City and southern Pennsylvania. A variety of mid-week concert series are available for children ages 3-14: Tiny Tots (grades PreK-Kindergarten), Prime Time (grades 1-3), and Music for Youth (grades 4-8).
