Mission Statement
The Allegany Arts Council is a non-profit organization working to ensure that Allegany County is <em>A Community Alive with the Arts! </em>Our mission is to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of the literary, visual and performing arts in Western Maryland in order to enhance the quality of life in our area. Our ongoing goals are to champion the arts in Allegany County, to support practicing artists and local art organizations, to encourage economic development through the arts and to facilitate the growth of our community into a regional arts destination.

Profile:
Andy Vick has been the Executive Director of the Allegany Arts Council since April of 2003. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, with a degree in History. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Andy moved to Cumberland from the Washington, DC area in 1998. Since 1993, Andy has also been a craft artist, working with Beth Piver Designs, an art business his wife began in 1990. Prior to his career in the arts, Andy was employed as a Marketing Director and as a Manager of Human Resources for businesses in the Washington, DC area. In addition to his role as Executive Director of the Allegany Arts Council, Andy is the Chair of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority. He also serves on the Maryland Tourism Development Board, the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is the Past-President of the Rotary Club of Cumberland. Andy is also a member the City of Cumberland’s Downtown Development Commission, a member of The Greater Cumberland Committee, and is the co-Coordinator for the Arts & Entertainment Districts in Downtown Cumberland and Downtown Frostburg.

Program Description:
<li>Arts at Canal Place, a cooperative gallery for local visual artists.
<li>Symphony Saturdays, a series of four, free workshops introducing children to the instruments of the orchestra.
<li>Artists' Studio Tours, featuring a free opportunity to visit over 30 area artists in their studios across two weekends in November.
<li>Saville Gallery exhibitions, featuring national, regional and local artists.
<li>Sundays in the Park, a series of free community concerts featuring local musicians from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
<li>Will's Creek Survey, a national, juried art exhibition with over $5,000 in prizes.
<li>Saturday Arts Walk, free self-guided walking tours of arts attractions in Downtown Cumberland's Arts & Entertainment District.
<li>Hadra Scholarship Fund, a program that makes small monetary grants to individuals interested in pursuing an art-related experience.
<li>Maryland Symphony Orchestra, annual performance co-sponsored with Frostburg State University.
<li>Arts Week in the Schools, a week-long infusion of the arts, presented in selected elementary schools each year.<br />
