Top accomplishments include:<br /> <ol><li>Trained 120 persons from national planning institutions in West Africa to enable them conduct research and analysis of policy alternatives to guide formulation of coherent regional integration and national development programs.</li><li>Developed a global model that demonstrates how policies that shift societies to a green economy – starting with green agriculture – will contribute to economic growth and sustainability. The model was used by UNEP for the ground breaking Green Economy Report, which revealed that investing just 2% of global GDP into 10 key sectors can jumpstart a transition towards a low carbon, resource efficient green economy.</li><li>Developed an integrated model for analysis of agricultural development scenarios for the Swiss Ministry of Agriculture. The model identifies future stress points in Switzerland’s agriculture system and its long-term sustainability. It also analyzes a variety of policies and alternative dietary trends to maintain food security while preserving the environment.</li></ol><br />

Hans Herren is an internationally recognized scientist, who, while as director of the Africa Biological Control Center of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, conceived and implemented the highly successful biological control program that saved the African cassava crop, and averted Africa's worst-ever food crisis. In recent years, Hans has moved his interests toward integrated sustainable development, in particular, linking environmental, economic, and human health issues. Hans earned his Ph.D. at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, and holds numerous awards that recognize his distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
