Mission Statement
Through the DAV Charitable Service Trust, a focused and boble purpose is pursued: Empowering Veterans To Lead High-Quality Lives With Respect And Dignity. When war wounds cast a shadow on the life of a hero, the Trust fulfills its mission by supporting a range of physical and psychological rehabilitation projects, as well as essential relief programs. And through critical research initiatives, the Trust makes sure sick and injured heroes get the very best treatment possible. Organized in 1986, the DAV Charitable Service Trust has a continuous historical relationship with the Disabled American Veterans national organization. The DAV is made up exclusively of men and women wounded in our nation's defense.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
In an era tested by the challenges of war, the DAV Charitable Service Trust looks in new directions as it builds on a proud record of compassion for America's wounded heroes.
The Trust's directors know demand for assistance will only grow, driven by two factors. More young veterans are returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq injured and sick, and we must be prepared to help them in whatever ways are necessary. We cannot lose sight of the needs of the veterans of past generations who also defended our freedom and needs us today.
Our challenges are enormous. We're confident in the Trust's ability to meet the changing, growing needs all of our wounded veterans will face.

Leadership
Mr. Richard E. Marbes

Profile:
One of the disability movement's most articulate leaders, Richard E. Marbes lost his right leg in military service. A resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mr. Marbes enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. Following training as an airborne radio operator, he was assigned to the Mutual Defense Assistance Program in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany. Little did he realize he would be training former World War II German servicemen, who already knew more about morse code and communications than he imagined. Completing this program, Mr. Marbes was assigned to medical evacuation and troop carrier squadrons in France and Germany. Ironically, he himself was transported back to the States via Med-Evac following an injury resulting in amputation of his leg. In 1987, Mr. Marbes decided to devote his career to assisting fellow veterans. In 1993 he was elected to serve as the national commander of the million-member DAV national organization. In addition, he was appointed to the Wisconsin State Board of Veterans Affairs, where he continues to serve as well as in a number of community and civic organizations. As Chair of the DAV Charitable Service Trust, he continues his career of assisting fellow wounded veterans and their families.
