Mission Statement

The Family Research Council (FRC) champions marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society. FRC shapes public debate and formulates public policy that values human life and upholds the institutions of marriage and the family. Believing that God is the author of life, liberty, and the family, FRC promotes the Judeo-Christian worldview as the basis for a just, free, and stable society.

<p>Tony Perkins is President of the Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council.&nbsp; He is a former member of the Louisiana legislature where he served for eight years, and he is recognized as a legislative pioneer for authoring measures like the nation's first Covenant Marriage law.&nbsp; Although he had no opposition for re-election, he kept his pledge to serve only two terms and left office at the completion of his term in 2004.&nbsp; He was a Republican candidate for the United States Senate in 2002.&nbsp; Since joining FRC in the fall of 2003 he has launched new initiatives to affirm and defend the Judeo-Christian values that this nation is founded upon.</p> <p>Tony Perkins and FRC have led the way in defending religious freedom in the public square, protecting the unborn and their mothers, defending and strengthening one man/one woman marriage and promoting pro-family public policy.&nbsp; Tony hosts a regular national radio program, "Washington Watch Weekly," broadcasts a daily commentary heard on over&nbsp;300 stations nationwide, and sends daily email updates to tens of thousands of grassroots activists.&nbsp; An effective communicator, he frequently appears on national broadcast and cable news programs.&nbsp; Tony's first book, <em>Personal Faith, Public Policy,</em> co-authored with Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., was released in March 2008. In addition, he has been a keynote speaker for organizations across the country.</p>

Program Description:

<div>Our Government Affairs department educates leaders within Congress, the administration, the courts and state legislatures so that our policy research has impact. <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>FRC&#8217;s Government Affairs team advises leaders on Capitol Hill and at the state level on issues that affect the family, especially legislation that impacts marriage or families, threatens religious liberty or freedom of speech, raises taxes, expands&nbsp;government,&nbsp;or jeopardizes the sanctity of life.</div></div>

Program Long-Term Success:

Education &amp; research - education: FRC mailed copies of over 425 different information products, including books, research reports, speech and radio transcripts, booklets and brochures, and audio and video tapes. Information requests were filled for over 20,000 recipients based on telephone and mail contacts of over 15,000 each month.

<div>Our Policy department uses social science data to prove the vital link between thriving families and a healthy society.&nbsp; <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>FRC&#8217;s Marriage and Religion Research Institute is striving to promote strong, lasting marriages and the practice of religion as absolutely vital to a healthy society.&nbsp;Additionally, our Center for Life and Bioethics is advancing adult stem cell research as the ethical, effective alternative to embryonic stem cell research through a cutting-edge &#8220;Adult Stem Cells Saved My Life&#8221; multi-media campaign.&nbsp;Other areas of focus include education policy, the sanctity of life, and the impact of homosexuality on marriage, children and society.</div></div>
