Program Description:
A-SPAN was started by concerned citizens who began feeding people on the streets in 1989. We continue this volunteer tradition with over 600 volunteers who help with our programs which include: OPPORTUNITY PLACE, opened in 1999, is a daytime walk-in center providing showers, mail, telephone, laundry, clothing, transportation, assistance with IDs, referrals for medical and dental, storage, as well as case management, employment couseling, and life skills training. The HOMELESS BAGGED MEAL PROGRAM serves 80 meals prepared and delivered nightly by volunteers. The STREET OUTREACH program is the foundation of the organization. Counselors seek out homeless people on the streets, in the woods, under the bridges, and anywhere homeless people may be found. The IN-ROADS and STRIVING HOME are housing first model programs that provide permanent supportive housing placements for 15 individuals provided through two HUD funded programs.
Program Long-Term Success:
Served aproximately 800 homeless people through Opportunity Place, a daytime center providing outreach, case management, job assistance and housing placement.
