Mission Statement

The Autism Society of America-Northern Virginia Chapter promotes the general welfare of children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and provides support for their families, and the educational, vocational training and recreational needs of those with autism, and aids in the collection and dissemination of information to parents, professionals and the public.

Sarah Peterson joined ASNV first as Assistant Director in 2012 and stepped in as Executive Director in 2013. She has worked in disability services and advocacy for over a decade, first in special education, then at the American Association of People with Disabilities. She has a Master of Social Work from the Catholic University of America and spent time at a foster care agency serving children with disabilities and other special needs and then at Children's National Medical Center providing social work services to families touched by disabilities.
