Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building and repairing houses with families in need.

Mrs. Traci DeGroat
Profile:
Since 2002, Ms. DeGroat has doubled the number of homes built, negotiated the purchase of property that will again double home production, started a successful recycling/retail program for the affiliate and started a home repair program. Ms. DeGroat formerly owned KTDiD Marketing & Advertising. She served as Chair of the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce in 1998-1999, was the Founding Chair of Jobs 2000, a Prince William County-Greater Manassas Career Expo, and has served on the Board of Directors of many educational and arts non-profit organizations. She is a graduate of the Prince William County Leadership Institute (2001) and is a member of the inaugural class of Leadership Prince William (2008).

Program Description:
Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabs homes in partnership with low-income families. The homes are sold to family partners at cost (no profit is added) and are financed with a 0% interest mortgage through Habitat for Humanity. The family makes a 1% down payment and provides 250-350 hours of volunteer labor (sweat equity) towards the building of their home or others. The family's principal payment goes into a Fund for Humanity which is used to build future homes.

We have built 8 homes in partnership with low-income families, impacting 30 people, including 20 children.

A Brush With Kindness

Program Description:
Our A Brush With Kindness program provides home repairs for low-income homeowners. Repairs include exterior repairs like roofing, siding, windows, trim, painting, and landscaping and minor interior repairs.
Program Long-Term Success:
In its first year, 2007, the A Brush With Kindness program repaired 10 homes in the Prince William County/Manassas community.

Program Description:
Habitat for Humanity provides repairs to homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina through Project REHAB: East Biloxi Repairs.
Program Long-Term Success:
Our affiliate sent almost 40 volunteers over a 5 week period in 2007 to East Biloxi and worked on 5 homes.

Program Description:
Habitat for Humanity operates a ReStore where building materials that would be thrown in the landfill are recycled and used in Habitatt's construction programs that benefit low-income family partners. Those materials that cannot be used in our construction programs are sold to the general public at 40% - 90% off retail prices and the proceeds are used to fund our construction programs.

Nearly 4,000 donors provided building materials to our Habitat ReStore last year.
