Mission Statement

To Prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society. AHS has been practicing adoption as an alternative to euthanasia since 1873. AHS was recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable tax exempt institution in 1942 and merged with the Georgia Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals in 1954. Established in 1873,the Society, is the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta and is historically the largest supplier of domestic pets in the Southeast.

Program Description:

The Atlanta Humane Society and Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals, Inc., provides unprecedented and unequaled humane services in support of animals and pet owners in metro Atlanta and Southeast. The AHS is our region's largest supplier of domestic pets and has the only full service charitable veterinary clinic. There are no time or space limits on animals awaiting adoption. Services include: animal intake and care, adoptions, education, advocacy, crises intervention, food bank, clinic, resource for social service agencies, and support for the indigent.
