Dr. John H. Klippel
Dr. John H. Klippel is the president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation, the nation's only national, nonprofit health agency working on behalf of the 70 million Americans with arthritis and related diseases. In addition to leading the Atlanta-based National Office of the Arthritis Foundation, he works closely with the organization's board of trustees to provide leadership and long-range strategic planning and direction for all Arthritis Foundation efforts, including achievement of its long-term strategic plan. Klippel is also a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University. Klippel, who has more than 30 years of experience in rheumatology and medical research, joined the Arthritis Foundation in 1999 as medical director, serving as the principal liaison for the organization for activities related to medical research and professional affairs. He provided overall direction to the Arthritis Foundation's research programs, as well as served as an authoritative representative for all questions related to arthritis, research and medically related issues. Before joining the Arthritis Foundation, Klippel served as clinical director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), a component of the National Institutes of Health. In this role, he was responsible for the clinical research programs of NIAMS' intramural research program. Prior to serving as clinical director, he was a senior investigator in the Arthritis and Rheumatism Branch of NIAMS. He has authored numerous scientific and clinical publications, and is a frequent presenter at conferences and meetings worldwide.
