Impact Summary from the Nonprofit
In 2006, after a year of researching, and planning, the Board of Directors of Aquinas College approved a comprehensive strategic plan - New Horizons 2015 - to articulate the growth and development over the next ten years. The vision of the New Horizons 2015 strategic plan is that ""in 2015, Aquinas College is nationally recognized as a model of Catholic liberal arts higher education."" While the past few years have seen remarkable developments for the College, including the addition of new majors, expanded resources on campus, and new faculty and staff, the New Horizons 2015 strategic plan outlines opportunities for additional growth: * Increase fulltime enrollment, * Offer an array of traditional liberal arts majors, * Provide on-campus student housing, * Expand the Nursing program facilities with new classrooms and laboratory space, and * Open a new Center for Catholic faith and culture in the south.

Program Description:
The strength of a liberal arts education is that it provides formation of the student on a profoundly human level. The student is exposed to the finest minds in western civilization and learns to think critically and to aspire to a life that is wholly integrated. On a practical level, the liberal arts program encourages students to explore a variety of fields, rather than to specialize in a job preparation track. This flexibility will be the key to students who, experts predict, will change careers (not just jobs but careers) an average of eight times during their working lives. A student who has learned how to think is much better equipped to solve complex problems in shifting environments than a student who has mastered a quantity of narrowly defined technical information. Two degrees are offered: Bachelor of Arts with majors in Liberal Arts, English, Theology, History and Philosophy; and Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts.

Program Description:
The Teacher Education Program at Aquinas College is committed to empowering teachers to develop fully the God-given potential of each student they teach. The curriculum is based on an interdisciplinary major in the liberal arts, thus providing the broad scope necessary for professional competence. Additionally, exposure to extensive classroom experience and volunteer activities enhance the level of confidence necessary to begin the practice of teaching. Our faculty view and profess teaching as a gift and a mission, not merely a profession or career. A Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Education are offered through the Teacher Education program. There is also a program leading to licensure for those who already have a baccalaurate degree.
