- Population Served:
-
Poor/Economically Disadvantaged, Indigent, General

Program Description:
Terry Modica will take her retreats to poor or out-of-the way parishes that have never before been blessed by a mission speaker. The topic is tailored to the needs of the parish. An example is the 4-evening parish mission "Four Levels of Mystical Prayer". The retreat is modeled after the four sets of mysteries of the Rosary. Day 1 focuses on how to live in mystical union with the joy of Christ no matter what hardships we face. Day 2 covers the prayer of action which is unity to the ministry of Christ and which springs from our hardships that now become blessings for others. Day 3 reveals how the Dark Night of the Soul is union with the Christ's Passion and Cross and ends with a powerful experience of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. And Day 4 leaves everyone inspired to meet the challenge of living solely for the glory of God.
Program Long-Term Success:

Catholic parishes in rural or poor areas will grow from increased involvement by faith-filled parishioners. Due to the shortage of priests, parishes that don't have their own pastor will be serviced with sound teachings.

Program Short-Term Success:
People who don't otherwise have much opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith will be reached directly and personally. Struggles and hardships that they endure will become more fully united to Christ, and their faith will grow as well as endurance, holiness, and love.

Program Success Examples:
At the beginning of Lent 2009, I journeyed on two airplanes and then a two-hour car ride to a wee small town in the middle of dought-inflicted farms in Bovina, Texas. My mission: to give a Lenten retreat at a poor parish that had never been blessed by a mission speaker before. They didn't even have a priest. Many traveled long distances from their farms to attend the retreat, and the turn-out was great for such a small parish: 50! -- and it remained so all four evenings. After the 3rd session, a priest from a neighboring town came to provide the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and nearly everyone went to Confession. As I sat in the back of the church absorbing the sacredness of the moment, my heart was deeply moved by what I was witnessing. And by the end of the 4th session, the group was alive with enthusiasm and new joy.

- Population Served:

-
Crime/Abuse Victims
-
General Public/Unspecified
Program Description:
A place (or places) of rest for those who need to be re-energized for their difficult trials and challenging ministries and jobs, and anyone else who needs rest and restoration in the Holy Spirit. It'll be a place to take a vacation in Christ, or a sabbatical, or a private retreat. It should have a creek or pond on the property, a walking trail through trees with meditation benches for Stations of the Cross, and a simple, peaceful cabin-like overnight facility. Spiritual direction will be provided by request. There will be no charge for any of this, although donations will be accepted. And if someone cannot afford the travel fare to get here, donations to Good News Ministries will cover this, too.
Program Long-Term Success:
A network of Restful Waters Restoration Centers will build across the world. Each center will be autonomously funded by its local members, under guidelines provided by Good News Ministries.
Program Short-Term Success:
Any individual using the place will return to the difficulties and challenges of normal life with new energy, hope, confidence, and plan of action for recovery.
Program Success Monitored by:
Feedback forms completed by persons who use the facilities.
Program Success Examples:

Since we don't yet have such facilities, we can only report that when the idea is described at speaking engagements, people afterward tell us that they surely need a place like it and would definitely come if it were available.

Program Description:
To do all that God is calling us to do, our staff has been expanding, but the four of us is still too few. There is a huge need to hire a Curriculum Coordinator who is bilingual (English & Spanish), and to hire a Production Assistant for Good News Studios, a second video camera for the studio work, and a large-screen TV for displaying multi-media presentations during our evangelization courses.

Our monthly expenses include $800 for the office rent and salaries for four staff members.
Program Long-Term Success:

Our growth and expansion will provide videos, writings, and speakers for Catholic faith formation around the world, including where Catholics are underground and persecuted and where churches cannot pay for the evangelization services they need.

How past donations to GNM were used:

On November 18, 1999, the daily Good News Reflections began with two people, then three, soon 200, and now more than 15,000 subscribers -- at no charge so that anyone can receive them regardless of income or where they live.

In 2003, with help from donors we supported the Child Jesus Orphan Care fund of the Mangochi Diocese of Malawi, Central Africa.

In 2004, readers of my daily Good News Reflections sent me to Malawi, Central Africa, on a missionary trip to teach seminarians and catechists.

In 2005, Good News Ministries purchased and donated an expensive computer to a priest from Nigeria who was studying in Rome.

In 2007, we tithed our incoming donations to the Bishop of Jowai, India, to help him with his new diocese.

In 2008, donations enabled us to tithe to CardioStart, a non-profit outreach of heart surgeons who donate their services in poor countries.

In 2009, Good News supporters helped me get to a poor parish in Texas.

In 2010, we evangelized two "seeker" young adults by sponsoring them on a Catholic pilgrimage. We also donated to a parish's newly formed theater troupe to help them reach out to the greater community, evangelizing in an unconventional way by performing family-friendly musicals and inviting in those who would otherwise never enter a Catholic church.

Program Short-Term Success:

Funds are also needed for the development of local Tampa-area events in our St. Paul Seminar room. Here, we supplement diocesan evangelization education and attract young adults and others who are interested in spirituality but not "organized religion" (church participation). This is where we can film seminars and courses for webcasting on our site and at youtube.
