Mission Statement

Happy Trails, founded in 1990, is offering a unique approach to helping children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. We are devoted to enhancing lives. Research shows that therapeutic riding can help individuals with impaired mobility by the gentle, rhythmical movement of the horse, which simulates the human walk. Individuals with learning disorders or mental disabilities, are motivated by riding to increase concentration, patience and discipline. All riders' benefit from increased self esteem, confidence and a better quality of life.

Ms. Lewis is a Registered Instructor through North American Riding for the Handicapped (NARHA) and a Certified Special Olympics Coach, with 30 years experience in Stable Management, horse training and riding instructor. In 1992 received the Freedom Award for outstanding service in Promoting Christian America.

Program Description:

The benefits are available to individuals with just about any disability, including: Cerebral * Autism * Head Injuries * Down Syndrome * Mental Retardation * Visual Impairments * Multiple Sclerosis * Spina Bifida * Spinal Cord Injuries * Emotional Disabilities. The Children-At-Risk are helped by learning to give of one self to those not as fortunate, learn to take instruction and follow through with it, and responsibility. They, also, benefit from increased self-esteem and confidence. United Way of Washington AREA,Blue Knights of LA., Franklinton Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Rainbow Futurity, Franklinton Lodge #101 and SCAP help sponsor our riders. Jumpin with Jazz raised funds to buy 80'x 100' covered arena & put sidewalks around outdoor arena to covered arena. Volunteer erected the covered arena. Entergy and Capt. M.P. Nolls helped buy clay for the arena floor. An Eagle Scout Troop of St. Tammy Parish build the Mounting Ramp.
