Profile:
Mr. Brutus has been the El Paso Diabetes Association leader since 2003. During his tenure, he has grown the agency from 2 employees to 12. He has taken the agency from a $200,000 budget to a $900,000 budget and counting. Unfortunately, the need is still greater than the resources. El Paso has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the country and one of the highest mortality rates as a result of diabetes in the state of Texas.
Leadership Statement:
The EPDA is a vibrant and forward thinking diabetes service provider. Diabetes has reached epidemic levels on the US-Mexico border and we are putting programs in place to make an impact in the region.

Program Description:
This is a program for children with diabetes and their loved ones. In 2008, we expanded this program to include children at-risk for diabetes. Children get seminars regarding diabetes prevention and control. We also offer camps in Winter and Summer every year. School personnel are also trained under this program to handle diabetes emergencies on their school campuses. Parents are educated as well to better understand diabetes and support their children's needs.

This is a program that includes many components with the ultimate goal of reducing th number of individuals in El Paso County that are affected by the complications of diabetes.
