Ms. Jennifer Andaluz
Jennifer Andaluz is Executive Director of Downtown College Preparatory. A graduate of UC Santa Cruz, Andaluz has worked in education since 1993. She began her career as a history teacher in large urban public schools, and worked closely with administrators and teachers alike in schoolwide initiatives designed to improve the academic performance of underachieving students. Her work in comprehensive schools culminated in a Leadership Grant from the Bay Area School Reform Collaborative, which was used to attack grade and attendance disparities for students of color. Andaluz is the co-founder of Downtown College Prep, and is responsible for organizational development, community outreach, and collaboration with school districts, universities, and other educational agencies focused on small school and urban school reform.

DCP-The Alameda is a public charter high school within the San Jose Unified School District, serving approximately 400 9-12th grade students, the majority of whom are low-income urban minorities. DCP-Alviso is a middle/high school located in the San Jose community of Alviso serving 6th and 7th graders with the ultimate goal of serving 700 6-12th grade students. DCP ensures that 100% of seniors are college bound by providing a combination of rigorous college preparatory curriculum, remedial instruction, personal attention, parent education and a host of other opportunities for students who might not otherwise have access to higher education. DCP seeks to unlock the potential for collegiate success in each student by promoting a school culture of ganas (desire), comunidad(community), and orgullo (pride).

Downtown College Prep (DCP) prepares first generation students to not only apply and be accepted into college, but to thrive in higher education and graduate. Students are helped through significant academic improvement and are highly supported throughout the whole process. DCP has utilized a flexible growth strategy that reflects the needs of individual students and enables them to achieve academic success.
Downtown College Prep not only has an outstanding Executive Director, but also has an exceptional staff. Their continuously solid leadership has proved time and time again to be the underpinnings of the organizations effectiveness. Teachers, staff, board members and community leaders have united within DCP in order to advocate for the academic success of first generation students.
Areas for Improvement
Having a succession plan will be crucial for the future of DCP as it will simultaneously prepare qualified staff for leadership roles and enable growth capacity. If DCP is able to attain even more funding, their students could be further supported and their programs would experience fortification and stability.
