Leadership

Mr. Shane Smith

Profile:

Since its inception in 1977 Shane Smith has been the director (and a founder) of the Cheyenne Botanic Garden, Wyoming's only public botanic garden. It is a people-oriented, solar heated and powered project. Under his direction, the project has received recognition awards from Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton. The project also received the community hero award from Wyoming Governor Geringer. Shane graduated from Colorado State University. He has also attained his Registration as a Horticultural Therapist from the American Horticultural Therapy Association. In 1989 he served a year as a Loeb Fellow in Advanced Environmental Studies at Harvard where he lectured and was able to pursue studies in design, community issues and leadership. Shane is author of three books; the most recent is Greenhouse Gardener's Companion. Shane currently produces regular garden-oriented radio programs aired on three different stations. In addition, he has consulted and lectured on greenhouses and community greening for over 20 years in 27 states, Mexico and Canada.
