Mission Statement
At Building Bridges we believe that creating a more just and inclusive world begins with individuals. We bring teens together with those they have been taught to fear and mistrust, and equip them with communication tools to build relationships across those divides. Young people emerge with hope, energy, and the skills they need to build communities free from hatred, discrimination and violent conflict.

Program Description:
Building Bridges’ longest running
program brings together groups of 40-50 young women from Israel, the PalestinianTerritories, and the U.S., ages
15-17, for a two-year cohort program. During residential summer intensives,
participants live, learn, and engage in dialogue in integrated groups. During the school year, they continue the
process in their home communities.
Through interactive and experiential workshops, they gain Building
Bridges’ unique blend of interpersonal communication skills and leadership
techniques. The experience deepens
understanding and builds empathy between them, and they feel empowered to act
as change agents in their communities and beyond. By the end of the program,
participants are expected to develop: newly built trust and empathy with other
participants who they may have perceived as adversaries; communication and
leadership skills that enable them to solve conflicts effectively and
peacefully; increased self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-esteem; and
long-term positive relationships between those from different communities,
specifically in relation to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
Program Long-Term Success:
Consistently, participants of
Building Bridges credit their experience with not only strengthening their
resolve to affect change in the world, but also awakening in them a belief in
our shared humanity regardless of faith, culture, ethnicity, nationality,
gender, or sexual orientation. Past participants have shared with us that the
Building Bridges community gave them the confidence to pursue educational and
professional dreams that they previously believed were unavailable to them as
women.
