Leadership Statement:
Even in our town we often have hard-working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days. Many times people are having to choose between paying the rent or keeping the lights on or missing a few days worth of meals. We realize that sometimes hunger can do a little bit of good, but when it happens on a continual basis, especially among the more at-risk segments of our population (children, seniors, pregnant women, the homeless), it can have adverse effects. We believe that no one should go to bed hungry, on the streets or otherwise. Our Soup Kitchen provides a nutritious and tasteful meal to the less fortunate in our community. A meal that we would be proud to serve to our family at home. A well-balanced meal, made fresh daily, consisting of a protein, vegetable and grain item with a fruit juice. We also have a continental breakfast available from 8-12.Those in need can also receive our food boxes twice a month (if they also sign up for the Government commodity food program). These boxes consist of 1 bag of canned protein, vegetables and grains, 1 bag of fresh produce and staple items like beans and rice, some bread and sometimes eggs and frozen boxed food. These boxes are meant to feed a family of four for around 2-3 days and are more of a stop-gap measure than anything else. While we might never eradicate poverty, we can give our neighbors a helping hand when they need it.
